reDeFine Money goes digital on Written

reDeFine Money, 1inch’s first-person history of decentralized finance, is coming to Written - which offers an innovative, blockchain-based approach to book publishing.
What does the history of DeFi look like when it is told by the people who actually built it? That is the idea behind reDeFine Money, a book produced by 1inch that brings together the stories of the founders and builders who helped turn decentralized finance from an experiment into a global industry.
Now, reDeFine Money is getting a digital release on Written, making the story of DeFi available in a new format and to a wider audience.
1inch will donate 100% of the revenue it receives from sales of the digital edition on Written to charity.

The digital edition of reDeFine Money will be available on Written, a platform for digital books and reading.
"Books explain the world and give us a deep understanding of what is happening around us,” says Andrew Baev, CEO of Written. “They even offer a glimpse of the future. And contrary to popular belief, there is room for new technology in publishing.”
“So it makes perfect sense that the digital edition of a book about DeFi has been released on Written, including as non-fungible tokens that record the book's provenance on the blockchain: a rare unity of form and content,” he goes on to say. “For Written, this is not an experiment but the foundation of our innovative platform, which is why we are delighted that reDeFine Money has been released with us."
“DeFi is transparent by design, but much of the story behind it has never been told,” adds Sergej Kunz, 1inch co-founder. “reDeFine Money pulls back the curtain on the people, decisions and events that shaped the industry - the good, the bad and the ugly. Today, we’re making those stories available to everyone while turning them into something positive, with our proceeds helping the next generation write their own story.”
On Written, the standard digital version costs US$9.99. In addition, 10 limited copies are available, each having a unique NFT cover. The price of a limited copy will be US$149.99.
DeFi history, told by the people who made it
reDeFine Money is a first-person oral history of the decentralized finance revolution.
The book features founders and builders from Aave, Curve, 1inch, MakerDAO, PancakeSwap, SushiSwap, Dragonfly, Dune and other major DeFi teams.
Among the interviewees are 1inch co-founder Sergej Kunz and Anton Bukov; Stani Kulechov, founder of Aave; Michael Egorov, founder and CEO of Curve; Rune Christensen, co-founder of MakerDAO; Fredrik Haga, co-founder of Dune; Kain Warwick, founder of Synthetix and co-founder of Infinex; and Eowyn Chen, ex-CEO of Trust Wallet.
Rather than a technical manual, reDeFine Money reads as a collective memoir. It follows how a group of idealists, hackers and outcasts built a parallel financial system from scratch - through bubbles, hacks, forks, collapses, reinventions and genuine breakthroughs.
Why the DeFi story matters
The central argument of reDeFine Money is simple: DeFi is not just a product, trend or speculative asset class. It is infrastructure.
The book explores how DeFi created on-chain versions of exchanges, lending markets, stablecoins and trading infrastructure outside the traditional financial system.
It also looks closely at one of the industry's defining moments: the 2022 crypto crash. While centralized intermediaries including Three Arrows Capital, Celsius and FTX collapsed, many decentralized protocols continued to operate.
For many of the people interviewed in the book, that period provided an important test of the principles on which DeFi was built: transparency, self-custody, permissionless access and on-chain execution.
From DeFi's past to its future
reDeFine Money is not just about how DeFi got here. It asks where decentralized finance goes next.
The book explores self-custody, permissionless innovation, financial ownership and the emergence of financial infrastructure built on decentralized rails.
Its contributors offer different perspectives on how that future will develop. But their stories share a common starting point: DeFi has already survived several cycles of experimentation, failure and reinvention, and the infrastructure created along the way continues to evolve.
The digital release on Written brings those stories to a new audience and offers another way to explore the people, ideas and events that shaped DeFi.
Readers who previously signed up to receive a free PDF version of reDeFine Money will also be able to access the book on Written. They will receive an email with details on how to get their copy on the platform.
Physical copies of reDeFine Money are still available at events that 1inch participates in.
